STREET FOOD OF MUMBAI

south Bombay is a beautiful place to start the food drive with. it is a delicious hub for all the foodies out there. The feel of this place takes us back in time. No wonder it is called the city of dreams but the actual feel of this city is in this very own place. So let’s start with our food journey. Taking the fastest transport to our destination is nothing but the local. Local trains are the fastest and convenient option to travel in Bombay. Anywhere you want to go just hop in a local and you’ll be there in an hour maximum. So that’s what I did reached the busiest station in india the churchgate station. next to this station is our first stop for the day, The khau gali. Every foodie’s go to place. This small busy street with stalls both the sides having fast food stalls like pav bhaji, sandwiches, coolers and much more. at the very beginning of the street are the coolers. Just perfect to have in this heat after getting off a local train. There are around 20 different flavours available from the basic nimbu sharbat to some really interesting flavours such as kachi kairi. My pick for the day was the nimbu pani. Delicious nimbu sharbat which is not so sweet and not so salty although it’s completely customizable and as cheap as 10 rupees. Next up is the famous linen pav bhaji stall that serves you with delicious varieties of pav bhajis and a lot more. Although the butter pav bhaji is my favourite here. The linen pav bhaji stall is the oldest here with a team of 12-15 men working vigorously throughout the day. For the non-veg lovers the shavarmas and frankie rolls are perfect options to choose from they are delicious tender roasted spiced chicken u can get quickly for a small break with prices as cheap as just 60 bucks. The local crowd here consists of daily corporate office goers and cricketers. Due to it’s locality near a stadium it is a go to spot for cricketers for their breaks . Mostly opting for juices and quick sandwiches. These people working in the kahu gali earn as much as 12000 to 50000 per day. Our next stop is this really old café called the café military serving their best beers all day long and their most selling desert the caramel custard, again very cheap and very yummy. Its light sweet and refreshing. How can we not mention kebabs without mentioning bademiyan. Yes, that just can’t happen Bademiyan is traditional and really old kebab corner for all the meat lovers these kebabs are so good that u cannot resist having more than one dish. The one item that you should have here are their mutton seekh kebabs.
How can we end our trip here they say having no sweet is a bad omen. Religious or not who can say no to ice creams when they come in 50 flavours sandwiched between crispy thin waffles. Our next stop is rustom ji’s ice cream works. They have around 50 fresh different flavours. There is everything from different kinds of fresh fruit flavours to rich dry fruit delights. If u really feel like experimenting your taste buds with their distinct flavours, then you must try the pan flavoured ice cream. My pick for the day was a very refreshing lime and lemon flavour which was sour and sweet just something new to treat my taste buds.
Overall my trip to the south of Bombay ended by a chilled breeze beside the nariman point at marine drive. Sitting there enjoying the sweet breeze by the sea waiting for my train was the cherry on the icing for me. My overall experience in south Bombay has been splendid and if u want to have a real taste of Bombay then this food drive is a mandatory trip for you.
